The Search Pane allows users to query for projects by using one or more filters. This element is located on the left side of STIP Viewer, but it can be hidden using the caret (). It is made up of three components: Overview, Search Filters, and State Logo.
Overview
The Overview section serves as a brief introduction to the application. It includes the definition of the STIP and instructions on how to navigate the system. To view the STIP definition, the user can hover over the information icon () to the left of the application title. The navigation instructions rest below this title. These instructions will include a link ("here") that opens the Comprehensive STIP report which runs nightly and is cached to ensure quick response times for the public. Due to this setup, approved actions will be available in the report the following day; however, all data displayed through the map pop-up and tabular results will be immediately updated as changes are approved.
Search Filters
The Search Filters are fields that allow the user to set criteria that narrows the mapped projects and search results. There are currently eight Search Filter fields on STIP Viewer: STIP, Revision, Control No., Local ID, Project Title, County, District, and Keyword. The user can fill any combination of filters that they choose, but the STIP field must at least have a value. The table below describes each filter:

| STIP | A picklist of all STIPs available to the public. This value will be read-only if no public comment periods are currently open. |
| Revision | A picklist of all available revisions for the selected STIP. This value will be read-only if no public comment periods are currently open. |
| Project ID | A free-form text field that allows the user to enter a Project ID in whole or in part. |
| Other ID | A free-form text field that allows the user to enter an Other ID (number) in whole or in part. |
| Name | A free-form text field that allows the user to enter a Name in whole or in part. |
| County | A picklist of all Counties in the state. |
| District | A picklist of all Districts and a "Statewide" option. |
| Keyword | A free-form text field that can be used to enter keywords that appear across project descriptions (ex. "Bridge"). This filter will perform a wildcard search on the Name, Description, Agency, Work Type, and Program. |
Once the desired filters have values, the "Find" button can be selected to update the map and tabular results. Alternatively, the Clear button in this section can be selected to reset the filters and the map back to the default view.
State Logo
The base of the Search Pane will host the state logo. This is a visual cue to the user that they are in the right place.
